Identifying The Essence of Your Existence

If we care to step back from our daily worries and think deeply for just a moment, it is easy to conclude that we exist in this world to live out a certain purpose. To any other living organisms, protecting and ensuring the survival of their species are their only instincts. However, out of all living organisms on this Earth, we, as humans, seem to take Life most seriously.

Throughout history, we have evolved and have become so sophisticated that worrying for our own basic physiological needs has simply been reduced to a small footnote in our lives. We have explored ideas and along the way, spawned so many activities (Sports, Politics, Hollywood glamour, etc.) that are seemingly unrelated to simply protecting survival. This is essentially tied to one thing: To live life happily with a sense of satisfaction.

We have reached an age where we are able to make many choices in Life. However, we are, by nature, denied the information we would need to make the best choices with ultimate wisdom of certainty even with the most advanced of technology today. The condition of mankind is then to have to plot our own course in the dark without adequate reasons and insights. This is akin to driving a vehicle blindfolded and we are bound to make a lot of mistakes in our lives, no matter how big or small. This inadvertently leads to some form of anxiety.

Anxiety had been, still is and will always be a basic feature of human lives throughout history. We are constantly making choices everyday, and are made mostly to simplify our lives and making it as convenient as we possibly can make it to be. However, we should make an effort to ensure we do not make today's world of consumerism as a cause for our unhappiness and insecurities. I mean, would that not defeat the purpose of living a happy and satisfied life?

We must be aware that nobody in this world really cares about who you are or what you have chosen to do. The ultimate responsibility is to ourselves and not to the social world. We must come to terms that the agony that comes with the freedom of choice is never an anomaly. This is perhaps one of the most predictable and perennial things of being alive.
