Living A Life Filled With Blunders

Always remember this: Never try to live a life afraid of making mistakes.

For when you are afraid of making mistakes, you will have literally closed the doors to infinite possibilities. For when you are afraid of making mistakes, you will have missed a lot of beautiful scenes along the way. For when you are afraid of making mistakes, you will have missed the chances to create beautiful memories. For when you are afraid of making mistakes, you will have missed many opportunities to become a better version of yourself. For when you are afraid of making mistakes, you will have missed that dream of your lifetime.

When the befallen mobile phone giant Nokia was acquired by Microsoft in 2015, Nokia CEO famously ended his speech by saying: "We didn't do anything wrong, but somehow we lost." Everyone from the management team began to tear sadly following that speech. Indeed, Nokia might not have done anything wrong. But, clearly, doing nothing wrong was not enough.

"Do nothing wrong" on the surface seems like the moral thing to do but upon deeper thoughts, it may not seem like the right thing to do in some cases. When you have done nothing wrong, it only proves that you have done things the correct way based on a certain direction; but it does not mean how well you have done it and it certainly does not mean you did it the Right way. When you have done nothing wrong, it only shows that you have harbored no evil intentions; but it does not mean you did it with a good intention in mind and not to say, even worse, the things you did could have an adverse effect to other things indirectly.

Too many of us like expending our energy on ensuring we do things right without mistakes, while we neglect doing the Right things, which lies in the importance of seizing opportunities at the right moments.

Kodak did not do anything wrong; it just underestimated the rise of digital cameras. Nokia did not do anything wrong; it just did not go along with the rising waves of smartphone craze. If we really take a good look at our lives, are we not repeating these eventful episodes in some ways?

Most of us graduated from universities only to start the rest of our lives looking for jobs that will clear our debts and then bring us some financial security. However, we are oblivious to the fact that our bosses can only offer us a position in the company but not a guaranteed future for our lives.

As we revel in our job titles, we tend to forget about what is the meaning of life after all the work in the office. We would rather spend three hours queuing up at Michelin-starred hawker stalls to enjoy our hard found freedom than spending it to self-improve in order to increase competitiveness. We would always complain that the world did not give us enough chances; but when opportunities arises in the form of challenges in life, we are not brave enough to face it. These options, on the surface, are not wrong. However, it seems like they are certainly not the Right way to live a life, would you not agree?
